1 Chronicles 18:1
Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
The account of David striking the Philistines, bringing them into subjection, and wresting Gath and its dependent towns from their control belongs to the history of David's work preserved in 1 Chronicles. Apart from its genealogies, that history runs parallel to the history given in Samuel, and the two records are to be compared together. The passage repays dwelling upon with close interest for the light it gives on the organization of David's forces under their divisions. It likewise repays such study for what it reveals of the extent of the work he accomplished, of his virtues and of his mistakes, and of the mercy and guidance God extended toward him.
