1 Chronicles 18:4

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.

This account belongs to the record of David's work, including the division of his armies, showing his virtues and his mistakes and God's mercy and guidance. It is to be compared with the parallel record in Samuel apart from genealogies. Here the number of horsemen David took from Hadadezer is given as seven thousand, while the parallel account in 2 Samuel 8:4 gives seven hundred.

The difference may reflect counting the horsemen in companies of ten. Otherwise the difference is attributed to a copying error, since the Hebrew letters for 700 and 7,000 differ by only a small dot that could easily be mistaken.
