1 Chronicles 19:17

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

The verse belongs to the account of David's work and the division of his armies and can be compared with the corresponding record in Samuel. It records David gathering all Israel's forces, crossing the Jordan, and coming upon the enemy. It records his personally setting the battle in array against the Syrians because the expedition was especially important and dangerous. Though David knew the enemy's weapons, he trusted in God rather than in chariots and horses.
