1 Chronicles 19:6
And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.
The Ammonites had insulted David's ambassadors, and afterward they understood that they had made themselves odious to him as enemies. Knowing that insult would bring retaliation, they moved at once to prepare for war. Hanun with the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen for their defense. The hire was made from Mesopotamia and from Syria-maachah and from Zobah. By that payment they drew those hired forces together with themselves into a large coalition against David's kingdom.
