1 Chronicles 19:7

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

The Ammonites were preparing for war against David by hiring thirty-two thousand chariots together with the king of Maachah and his people. While those hired forces came and encamped before Medeba, the Ammonites themselves gathered together out of their cities and advanced to battle. This mobilization was not an isolated attack but part of a formidable coalition that encircled Canaan. In that encircling alignment of enemies, Israel faced a widespread and threatening combination of hostile powers.
