1 Chronicles 2:21
And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was threescore years old; and she bare him Segub. And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was threescore years old; and she bare him Segub.
This verse belongs to the genealogical record of Judah, the Sons of Judah lists. That genealogy of Judah was carefully preserved as the tribe through which Christ came. The genealogical record preserves the names and family lines of individuals.
The lists name obscure, ordinary people about whom nothing else is known, who lived their lives and passed away thousands of years ago, some prosperous and some failures like any ordinary person. God remembers every one of them by name, every man of them, prosperous or failure, even thousands of years after people have long forgotten them. Because God does not change, He still remembers and keeps names safe and sure in the same way now. The verse therefore gives comfort when downhearted that one's own name is put away safe and sure in His lists, so that even a forgotten, discouraged, defeated old man has his name kept by God, and there is comfort in that remembrance.
