1 Chronicles 2:23

And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

This verse stands in the long genealogical and historical record of Judah, the Sons of Judah lists, with their many hard names of people now unknown. Like other such records, its value may not be immediately clear to every reader, yet it gives material for studying peoples and their origins. Its careful preservation shows the preservation of the records of God's children and the integrity of Israel's tribes, keeping intact the line of Judah through which Christ came.

The men named in it lived their lives and passed away, some prosperous and some failures, like any ordinary people. The verse means God remembers every one of them by name, though folks forgot them thousands of years ago, keeping each name put away safe and sure in His own lists. Because God is not the changing kind, He still remembers today, and that brings comfort when downhearted.
