1 Chronicles 2:27

And the sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were, Maaz, and Jamin, and Eker.

Maaz, Jamin, and Eker were the sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel. The verse stands in the long lists of names in the opening chapters of Chronicles, whose interest and value may not be apparent to everyone. It belongs to the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, the tribe through which Christ came.

Such genealogies record the origins and distribution of peoples, reflecting the care given to preserving family records. They give scholars material to study, while spiritual truths are also found along the way. They concern ordinary people about whom nothing is now known, who lived their lives and passed away, some prosperous and some failures like any ordinary person.

God remembers them all, every man of them by name, though folks forgot them thousands of years ago, and He keeps a faithful record of every soul. Because God is not the changing kind, He still keeps each unknown name put away safe and sure in His lists today. That remembrance gives comfort when downhearted.
