1 Chronicles 2:30

And the sons of Nadab; Seled, and Appaim: but Seled died without children.

The verse names the two sons of Nadab as Seled and Appaim, and records that Seled died childless. It belongs to the carefully recorded and carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, the tribe through which Christ came. It stands among the Sons of Judah lists that name people who lived and passed away thousands of years ago and about whom nothing is now known, including the prosperous and the failures.

As a genealogy it is part of Scripture preserved for instruction, though it is not as interesting or instructive as the Gospels and does not merit the same frequency of reading or memorization as more spiritually rich passages. The careful recording of even names and family details shows that God remembers every person by name when men have long forgotten them and keeps a faithful record of every soul. Because God does not change, this remembrance gives comfort to the downhearted that their own names are also kept safe and sure in His lists.
