1 Chronicles 2:42
Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron. Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron.
This verse belongs to the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, the tribe through which Christ came. It stands among the lists of the sons of Judah concerning obscure people about whom nothing is known, who lived their lives and passed away, some prosperous and some failures. It is part of the genealogical records that preserved family descent needed after the exile to establish hereditary ownership of land and hereditary duties in temple service. It is an example of the Bible's genealogical lists that may seem difficult to understand or of little value, yet are part of an inspired book that can engage scholars and reveal the origins and distribution of peoples.
The verse shows that God remembers every obscure person by name though people forgot them thousands of years ago. Because God does not change He still keeps such names safe and sure in His lists. This gives comfort when downhearted.
