1 Chronicles 2:45

And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Beth-zur.

The line runs from Shammai through Maon to Beth-zur, Maon being Shammai's son and Beth-zur being Maon's son. It stands in the first nine chapters of Chronicles, which consist almost wholly of genealogies, among the long chapters of hard names. It belongs to the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, the tribe through which Christ came, kept because Jesus came from Judah and from David's family. This genealogical detail is part of the inspired Bible, recording the origin and distribution of races, and such lists may hold value for study even when their significance is not immediately apparent to every reader.

It names people about whom nothing is now known, who lived their lives and passed away thousands of years ago and were long forgotten by people. Its place among the genealogies shows that God is particular and keeps a faithful record of each person. It shows God remembers every such person by name, whether prosperous or a failure, and keeps each name safe and sure in His own lists. Because God does not change, He still knows each person by name today and keeps each name safe and sure, which gives comfort when downhearted that one's own name is also remembered.
