1 Chronicles 2:55

And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.

The verse names three families of scribes dwelling at Jabez, the Tirathites and the Shimeathites and the Suchathites, as Kenites descended from Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab, giving the first mention of Rechab, the ancestor of the Rechabites. It belongs to the genealogical records in Chronicles. Those records form the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, whose tribal records were kept with care, and through Judah came Christ. They preserved proof of hereditary descent needed after the exile to assign land to its hereditary owners and to maintain temple service through those with hereditary duties.

The keeping of such genealogies shows that God is particular to keep a faithful record of each person, and these earthly genealogies point to the faithful record of every soul kept in the books of heaven. God's record preserves by name people whose lives and stories are otherwise forgotten, as seen in this list of scribal families and their ancestry. This gives assurance that God does not forget anyone.
