1 Chronicles 21:23
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
The verse belongs to David's sacrifice on Mount Moriah on the very ground where the temple was afterward built, ground long held as consecrated. In it Ornan freely offers to David the oxen for burnt offerings, the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering. David refuses to offer what costs him nothing and buys the threshing floor and its provisions at full price, showing that worship requires personal sacrifice.
There David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to stay the avenging sword of the destroying angel, and God answered him by fire from heaven. The sacrifice at Ornan's threshing floor turned aside the destroying angel's sword. That sacrifice serves as a symbol of the Saviour's sacrifice and mediation for guilty people. That meeting marked the spot as a place where worshipers meet God and renew their vows of allegiance to Him.
