1 Chronicles 21:29

For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the heights of Mount Moriah, the site where the temple was afterward built. The sacrifice offered at Ornan's threshing floor stayed and turned aside the destroying angel's avenging sword. God answered David by fire from heaven. That answer marked the spot as long-consecrated ground where the worshipers of Jehovah meet God and renew vows of allegiance. That sacrifice prefigured and was a fitting symbol of the Saviour's sacrifice and mediation for guilty people.
