1 Chronicles 22:11
Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee.
The words are David's charge and blessing to his son Solomon, entrusting him with building the house of the Lord as God had assigned and directed that Solomon, and not David, should do. David had made large provisions for the temple, but the Lord told him he was not the one to build it and that the work must pass to Solomon. The blessing asks for the Lord to be present with Solomon and to prosper him with success as he carries out the building work.
That promised success depends on dependence on God and divine guidance with faithful obedience, not on Solomon's ability alone, and the temple was part of the great inherited responsibility as ruler and builder that Solomon felt was too great to bear without God. The verse shows God's pattern of having different sets of workmen for different branches of His cause, so that when those called to a certain work have carried it as far as they can, He calls and qualifies other men to come in and carry it farther and lift the standard higher. Experienced workers may, from their large experience, advise, counsel, and encourage those newly entrusted with responsibilities, while leaving the younger workers to do the work in their own way and fulfill their own calling. Older, weary and worn minds that do not take in the greatness of the work in all its bearings and are not inclined to keep pace with God's opening providences should not keep all responsibility, belittle God's accepted helpers, hinder them, or dictate just how the work should be done, but should encourage them so the work is not retarded.
