1 Chronicles 22:17

David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

David had gathered large provisions and materials for the temple, but the Lord told him he himself was not to build it, so he commanded all the princes and leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon do the building work. David could counsel and encourage his son, yet Solomon was the one to build, and the younger man given that responsibility needed support to carry it out.

The command shows that God has different sets of workmen for different branches and stages of His cause, and when those called to a certain work have carried it as far as they can, He calls and qualifies other men to come in and take it up, carry it farther, and lift the standard higher. Older brethren of large experience who have grown weary should therefore advise, counsel, and encourage the younger men, and use their influence to obtain for them the assistance of princes, leaders, and helpers. They must not say just how the work should be done, hinder helpers who take hold of it in a somewhat different way, circumscribe the work, or keep all the responsibility themselves, for minds that do not grow with the work and discern its increasing demands will retard its advancement.
