1 Chronicles 22:18
Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people. Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.
David had gathered materials and made preparation for the temple, yet God had assigned its construction to Solomon rather than to David himself. The verse is David's encouragement to Solomon that God was with him and had given Israel rest and victory in the land. That gift was rest on every side, secured by giving the inhabitants of the land into his hand so that the land was subdued. From his own experience David could advise, counsel, and encourage Solomon, while Solomon himself as the younger man was to carry out the building work. The account thus shows that responsibility for a work may pass to someone newly qualified to advance it.
