1 Chronicles 23:17
And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
The verse stands within 1 Chronicles 21 to 25, which completes the span from 2 Samuel 22 to 1 Chronicles 25 covered April 9 to 15, with 1 Chronicles 21 to 25 itself falling on April 15. It belongs to the closing portion of 1 Chronicles 21-23, set in the prosperous years of David's reign. As one of the many genealogies in Chronicles, it furnished strict legal proof of hereditary descent needed after the exile, when land was to be assigned to its hereditary owners and temple service to be taken up by those whose hereditary duty it was.
Chronicles in this way supplies new and important facts omitted from Samuel and Kings, while taking knowledge of the preceding books for granted. As part of the Levitical genealogies, the verse shows that God is particular in keeping a faithful record of each soul in the books of heaven. The genealogies of Levi were kept unbroken till Christ's first advent, because the Aaronic priesthood had to continue till the Jews ceased from being a nation and the priesthood was superseded by that of Christ.
