David carefully assigned special duties to the men best fitted for them, and this organization was perfected when Solomon was placed on the throne, covering the priests and Levites, the civil officers, and the army. The numbering counted 38,000 Levites from thirty years old and upward. Of these, 24,000 were to carry on the work of the house of the Lord, and 6,000 were to serve as officers and judges. Another 4,000 were porters and 4,000 were musicians. The division shows thorough organization in which each worker knew his place and his work.
