1 Chronicles 27:4
And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand. And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.
1 Chronicles 27:4 belongs to the account of the arrangements for the temple services and the affairs of David's kingdom. Within that account it stands as part of a list of monthly military courses organized according to the twelve months of the year. For the second month it names Dodai the Ahohite as the assigned commander with Mikloth as fellow ruler and gives the strength of that division as twenty-four thousand. As one of twelve such monthly courses, the list shows that the year had twelve months and provides evidence for a 360-day year made up of twelve 30-day months.
The wider list in verses 1-15 describes David's regular army, and its inclusion explains why the army total in 1 Chronicles 21:5 is higher than in 2 Samuel 24:9, with Chronicles including these regular troops while Samuel excludes them. That difference between the totals may instead have come from a copying error.
