David Blesses the LORD Before the Offeringsby emmanuel_higgins

1 Chronicles 29:10

Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

The words were spoken openly before all the congregation as David's final charge to Israel, at the time when the gathered materials for the temple were being dedicated. In that setting he entrusted the temple work to Solomon and urged the people to obey and seek God's commandments. He blessed the Lord openly before the people and praised Him as the Lord God of Israel, their Father, worthy to be blessed for ever and ever.

The blessing opens a prayer declaring that greatness, power, glory, victory, majesty, kingship and all authority belong to God. All that is in heaven and in earth is His, and He reigns over all. Riches and honor come from Him, strength is in His hand, and the power to give strength and greatness comes from Him.

Everything belongs to God, and even the people's ability and willingness to give come from Him, so their willing offerings for the temple are only returning what He first gave them, not possessions of their own. Such gifts do not earn God's favor; they call for gratitude and praise, and David thanked and praised God for the people's generosity. Those entrusted with resources should therefore willingly use them for God's work and give Him thanks.

The prayer also acknowledges human life as temporary and dependent, and affirms God's pleasure in an upright heart. It asks God to keep the people's hearts faithful and to give Solomon a wholehearted commitment to obey His commandments and build the temple. The congregation joined David in blessing and worshiping God.
