1 Chronicles 29:16
O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own. O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
All the store prepared to build a house for God's holy name comes from His hand and remains His own. To bring those materials for the building is to return to Him what He provided, not to present something independent of His provision. People are able to give only because He entrusts riches to them and moves their hearts by His Spirit, and without His power the temple could not have been built. David thanked Him for making the people able to give in this way. Such offerings therefore give the givers no claim upon His favor.
Because they are only stewards of what He has entrusted to them, His people can offer willingly and gratefully for His worship and glory, not as a grudging loss but as a return of what is already His. The treasures David collected were entrusted to others for the building work God assigned to Solomon. Money that can be spared belongs to God and should be kept available for His work, including missionary work in fields waiting to be served.
