1 Chronicles 3:20

And Hashubah, and Ohel, and Berechiah, and Hasadiah, Jushab-hesed, five.

The verse names five descendants in David's line — Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed. It belongs to the genealogical records in the opening chapters of Chronicles, whose first nine chapters consist almost entirely of genealogies. In these records Chronicles gives more detail about Judah than Kings does. The genealogical records preserved hereditary descent for the returning exiles.

They preserve the records of God's children and the integrity of the tribes, especially the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah through which Christ came. Though such long lists of names may seem to have little value and be difficult and tedious to read, they are part of an inspired book containing material for people with different interests and capacities. Such lists can interest those studying the origin and distribution of races, while spiritual truths are also scattered throughout the Bible.

Even dry and uninteresting chronology contains beautiful gems illuminating God's care. The genealogies show that God is particular and that a faithful record of each soul is kept in heaven.
