1 Chronicles 3:4

These six were born unto him in Hebron; and there he reigned seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.

The six sons born in Hebron and the division of the reign into seven years and six months there and thirty-three years in Jerusalem belong to the carefully preserved genealogy of the tribe of Judah. That tribal record was kept to preserve the accounts of God's children and to maintain the integrity of the tribes, because Christ was to come through Judah. It stands within the long record of names and chronology in Chronicles that is often regarded as dry and uninteresting, yet beautiful gems rise from it that illuminate the whole record.
