David With Bathsheba, Baby Solomon and Sonsby emmanuel_higgins

1 Chronicles 3:5

And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel:

1 Chronicles 3:5 belongs to the genealogical records of Chronicles, which occupy almost the whole of its first nine chapters and record names and events. Like Chronicles as a whole, the genealogy parallels the books of Kings but gives more detail about Judah, paying particular attention to Judah and the priesthood. After the exile these genealogical records met the practical need to establish hereditary ownership of land and hereditary duties in temple service.

The verse shows the careful preservation of the genealogy of the tribe of Judah, maintaining the records of God's children and the integrity of the tribes through which Christ came. It identifies Nathan as one of David's sons by Bath-shua and as Solomon's brother, a different man from Nathan the prophet, since several different men shared that name. As part of a genealogy the verse is preserved for instruction, yet inspiration does not make every passage equally interesting or instructive or to be read equally often; unlike passages such as John 14 and Romans 8, it does not invite deep, repeated reading.
