1 Chronicles 4:16

And the sons of Jehaleleel; Ziph, and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.

The verse lists Ziph, and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel as the sons of Jehaleleel. It stands in the opening genealogies of Chronicles, among long lists made up almost entirely of names. Those lists cover twelve chapters with over five hundred verses that are nearly all names, like the records of Adam's posterity, the descendants of Noah's sons, and the posterities of Esau, Jacob, Reuben, and Aaron. Within those lists it belongs to the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, the tribe through which Christ came.

The great number of such genealogies supplied records needed after the exile, when the land was assigned to its hereditary owners and the temple service was taken up by those whose hereditary duty it was. Its inclusion shows that even passages that only list names, whose value may not be immediately apparent, belong to the inspired Bible and can hold significance for study. The careful preservation of names in such family records shows that a faithful record of every soul is kept in the books of heaven.

The verse is simply a record of persons, not an expressed or precious promise to God's people and not to be counted among the distinct promises of the Bible. This shows that not every one of the thirty-one thousand five hundred and thirteen verses of the Bible is a promise.
