1 Chronicles 4:22
And Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And these are ancient things. And Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And these are ancient things.
The verse stands within the genealogical record of Judah that preserves the lineage of that tribe. In that record the people of Chozeba are identified as descendants of Judah. The genealogies that open the books supply what was left out of Samuel and Kings, taking for granted a knowledge of the preceding books of the Bible.
Its account of ancient families and dominion belongs to the great number of genealogies needed after the exile, so that the land could be assigned to its hereditary owners and the temple service taken up by those whose hereditary duty it was. Though the lists of the chapter may seem dry, they preserve the records of God's children and show the integrity of the tribes. Through Judah came Christ.
