1 Chronicles 4:34

And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah the son of Amaziah,

1 Chronicles 4:34 belongs to the genealogies that form the first division of Chronicles, standing alongside the histories of David, of Solomon, and of the remaining kings of Judah. Within that division the verse lists hereditary names. It assumes knowledge of the preceding books of the Bible while giving new and important facts. The great number of such genealogies exists because after the exile such records were needed to assign the land to its hereditary owners and to restore the temple service to those whose hereditary duty it was.

As part of a genealogy, it is one of the records of names showing that God keeps a faithful record of each soul.
