1 Chronicles 4:41
And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
1 Chronicles 4:41 belongs to the genealogies that form the first division of Chronicles, which is followed by the histories of David, Solomon, and the remaining kings of Judah. It records that in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah the men written by name smote the tents and the habitations found there, destroyed them utterly, and dwelt in their rooms because there was pasture there for their flocks. It is a record of names and events, not an expressed promise. It supplies what was left out of Samuel and Kings, giving new and important fact while taking knowledge of the preceding books of the Bible for granted. The great number of genealogies including this verse exists because after the exile such records were needed to assign the land to its hereditary owners and to restore the temple service to those whose hereditary duty it was. The careful preservation of Judah's genealogy in the wider chapter matters because Christ came through that tribe.
