1 Chronicles 5:14
These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz; These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;
This verse belongs to the long lists of names in the first eight chapters of 1 Chronicles, in a chapter that is nearly all a list of people's names rather than an expressed promise. It names the children of Abihail and traces Abihail's ancestry through Huri, Jaroah, Gilead, Michael, Jeshishai, Jahdo, and Buz. These carefully preserved genealogical records proved hereditary descent needed after the exile for assigning land and maintaining temple service, and they show the continuity of Israel's tribes.
The verse is fully inspired even though few read such genealogies in family worship or private devotions or see their value. It is not equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances. It is one of the deep things put in to interest scholars, for God made the Bible for all classes and not for one class only. Foreseeing that men would arise who would study ethnology, He recorded in verses like this the origin and distribution of races, while the most illiterate find manna and nourishment elsewhere.
The detailed family line shows that God is particular and that a faithful record of every soul is kept in heaven. God scattered pearls of spiritual truth along the way by which He leads such students as scientists, so that many seeking only human knowledge find that which is divine.
