1 Chronicles 5:4

The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

The verse is part of the carefully preserved genealogical record of the family names of Israel, belonging to the portion assigned for reading on June 26. That record illustrates the preservation of the records of God's children and the integrity of the tribes. As a record of family names it illustrates that God is particular and that a faithful record of each soul is kept in heaven.

The verse is fully inspired as part of the whole Bible, even though it stands in one of the long lists of names that many cannot understand or see the value of and seldom read in family worship or private devotions. Not all of the Bible is equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances, for the most illiterate finds manna elsewhere, while God put deep things such as this genealogy to interest scholars. God made the Bible for all classes, knowing that men would arise who study ethnology, and recorded the origin and distribution of races, scattering pearls of spiritual truth along the way by which He leads them as scientists so that many seeking only human knowledge find what is divine.
