1 Chronicles 6:20

Of Gershom; Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,

Of Gershom are set down Libni his son, and Jahath the son of Libni, and Zimmah the son of Jahath.
The lists to which this reckoning belongs record names and events and give particular attention to Judah and to the priesthood.
They served as legal proof of hereditary descent, needed after the exile for assigning land and for maintaining temple service.

They preserve the record of God's children and the integrity of Israel's tribes.
Their inclusion shows that genealogies form part of the inspired record and can preserve information about the origin and distribution of peoples, even when their value is not immediately apparent to every reader.
The naming of Libni, Jahath, and Zimmah shows that God remembers people by name even when others have forgotten them, which can comfort those who feel unnoticed or like failures.
