1 Chronicles 6:29

The sons of Merari; Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzza his son,

The verse gives successive generations from Merari through Mahli, then his son Libni, then his son Shimei, then his son Uzza.
It stands within the extended genealogies of the sons of Levi that fill the first eight chapters of Chronicles.
Those genealogies preserved hereditary descent, which mattered after the exile when land had to be restored to its hereditary owners and temple service had to be performed by those to whom it belonged by birth.
The genealogical record thus preserves the names and lineage of God's people and testifies to the integrity of Israel's tribes.

The careful keeping of each name shows God's care to maintain a faithful record of each person and His remembrance of each one even when later generations no longer know them, which brings comfort.
Its place in such a list of names shows that Scripture contains material whose value is not at once clear and which does not interest every reader equally, yet its depth gives scholars and persons of differing interests reason for study, and spiritual truths are to be found along the way.
