1 Chronicles 6:46

The son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer,

The son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer is one entry in the long genealogical record of the Levites. Such genealogies preserved proof of hereditary descent, which was needed after the exile to establish land inheritance and eligibility for temple service. The entry belongs to an extended section of names, one of over five hundred verses in twelve chapters of 1 Chronicles that are nearly all personal names giving only a father-to-son link, including the record in 1 Chronicles 4-6.

The verse gives nothing more than a record of names and is not an expressed promise, much less an exceeding great and precious promise. With more than fifteen hundred other mere name verses, only about thirty thousand verses in the whole Bible could possibly be counted as promises. Despite seeming difficult or of little immediate value, the inclusion of such long genealogical lists shows they are part of an inspired Bible and have depth and interest for study.

Its place in the faithful genealogical record illustrates that God is particular and that a faithful record of each soul is kept in the books of heaven. The verse names people whose lives are otherwise unknown, yet God remembers each of them by name. That remembrance offers comfort to those who feel forgotten or unsuccessful.
