1 Chronicles 6:56

But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

The verse stands within the genealogical record and history of the tribe of Judah. Its presence there reflects the careful preservation of that tribe's history. That genealogy names persons whom others have long forgotten.

Its naming of Caleb son of Jephunneh and of the farmlands and settlements assigned to him shows that God remembers people by name. Judah, whose history the verse thus helps preserve, is the tribe through which Christ came.
