1 Chronicles 6:66

And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their coasts out of the tribe of Ephraim.

The book is Words or Acts of Days, that is minutes of events, lists of names, and the like, standing as one book in the third part of the Jewish canon, called in the Septuagint Things omitted or passed over and in common use by the Latin title Chronica, compiled by Ezra, and giving much more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than Kings. It belongs to the first nine chapters, which give lists and genealogies of the various tribes with occasional matters of special interest thrown in.

It is part of the careful record of Israel's tribal families, particularly the descendants of Judah and Levi, and their allotted cities. It names Ephraim as the source of cities from its territory for the remaining Kohathite families, illustrating the preservation of the tribes' genealogies and inheritance.

It belongs to long lists that may seem hard to understand or of little value, yet its place in the Bible shows Scripture includes material that is not equally interesting or useful to every person in every circumstance. Such lists can interest scholars studying the origin and distribution of peoples, with spiritual truths scattered through that study, reflecting the Bible's purpose for people of different abilities and interests. These lists of names show that God remembers each person by name, even those long forgotten by others, whether they had been prosperous or had felt like failures.
