1 Chronicles 7:16

And Maachah the wife of Machir bare a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

1 Chronicles 7:16 is part of the lists and genealogies of the various tribes. It records family names in the form of minutes of events, lists of names, and the like. Those long lists of names occupy the first eight chapters of 1 Chronicles. Those lists and genealogies of the tribes are given in the first nine chapters of Chronicles.

Even though such lists are not equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances, they are fully inspired. God placed such genealogies in the Bible not for one class only but for all classes, putting deep things in them to attract and interest scholars while even the most illiterate still finds plain nourishment for the soul. The verse belongs to God's record of the origin and distribution of races, placed there because He knew men would arise who would study ethnology. Along the way by which God leads such scientists He has scattered pearls of spiritual truth, so that many who seek only human knowledge find that which is divine. As a careful genealogical record, it shows that God keeps a faithful record of each soul.
