1 Chronicles 7:20

And the sons of Ephraim; Shuthelah, and Bered his son, and Tahath his son, and Eladah his son, and Tahath his son,

This verse stands within the genealogies of Chronicles. It records the line of descent from Ephraim through Shuthelah and Bered and Tahath and Eladah and Tahath. Those family records preserved hereditary descent after the exile so that land could be assigned and temple service maintained.

Such long genealogies preserve information about the origin and distribution of peoples. They contain details worth studying even when their value is not immediately apparent. Its place in these carefully kept family records shows that God is particular and that a faithful record of every soul is kept in the books of heaven.
