1 Chronicles 7:28
And their possessions and habitations were, Beth-el and the towns thereof, and eastward Naaran, and westward Gezer, with the towns thereof; Shechem also and the towns thereof, unto Gaza and the towns thereof: And their possessions and habitations were, Beth-el and the towns thereof, and eastward Naaran, and westward Gezer, with the towns thereof; Shechem also and the towns thereof, unto Gaza and the towns thereof:
The verse stands in the first nine chapters of Chronicles, which are made up of lists and genealogies of the various tribes. Chronicles as a whole is a book of minutes of events, lists of names and the like, giving more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than the books of Kings do. Within that detailed genealogical and historical record of Israel it sets down the possessions, habitations and towns where the descendants of Ephraim lived and held their settlements.
Such detailed lists of names and places add breadth to the Bible, and though they may not interest every reader equally they can engage those who study the origins and distribution of peoples. Their inclusion shows that God is particular and that a faithful record of each person is kept in heaven. The specific place names in this verse are given without further explanation.
