1 Chronicles 7:33

And the sons of Japhlet; Pasach, and Bimhal, and Ashvath. These are the children of Japhlet.

The verse preserves the names of Japhlet's sons — Pasach, Bimhal, and Ashvath — as part of Israel's genealogical record, showing the careful recording of the tribes' lineage. It belongs to the long lists of names in the first eight chapters of Chronicles. It belongs to the lists and genealogies of the various tribes in the first nine chapters of Chronicles and is appointed for morning reading on May 19 together with 1 Chronicles 8 and 9.

Chronicles forms one book in the third part of the Jewish arrangement, meaning words or acts of days, that is, minutes of events, lists of names, and the like, called in the Septuagint things omitted or passed over and from the Latin called Chronica, and it gives much more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than Kings does. Such genealogies are fully inspired even though they are not equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances, for God placed them for all classes and not for one class only, putting deep things in them to attract scholars while the most illiterate finds nourishment elsewhere. God knew men would arise who would study ethnology, and in such verses recorded the origin and distribution of races, scattering pearls of spiritual truth along the way by which He leads them as scientists, so that many seeking only human knowledge have found that which is divine.

Its place among the genealogies shows that God is particular and that a faithful record of every soul is kept in heaven.
