1 Chronicles 7:34

And the sons of Shamer; Ahi, and Rohgah, Jehubbah, and Aram.

Chronicles is one book meaning words or acts of days, that is minutes of events, lists of names and the like, called in the Septuagint things omitted or passed over and in Latin Chronica, compiled and written by Ezra, giving much more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than Kings. This verse belongs to the long lists of names and genealogies of the various tribes in the opening chapters, described as the first eight and the first nine chapters, in which family names were carefully recorded.

These lists of names are seldom read in family worship or private devotion and their value is hard to understand. The verse is fully inspired even though the whole Bible is not all equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances. God put such genealogies in the Bible not for one class only but for all classes, to interest scholars with deep things.

He recorded the origin and distribution of races because men would arise who study ethnology. He scattered pearls of spiritual truth all along the way by which He leads them as scientists, so that many seeking only human knowledge find that which is divine. The genealogies illustrate that God keeps a faithful record of each soul in the books of heaven.
