1 Chronicles 7:40
All these were the children of Asher, heads of their father’s house, choice and mighty men of valour, chief of the princes. And the number throughout the genealogy of them that were apt to the war and to battle was twenty and six thousand men.
All these were the children of Asher stands in the first nine chapters of Chronicles, which give lists and genealogies of the various tribes. In the Jewish arrangement Chronicles forms one book in the third part, called Words or Acts of Days, meaning minutes of events, lists of names, and the like. As a genealogical list, the verse records the origin and distribution of peoples. Such long genealogical material may not interest every reader and is not equally useful to all people in every circumstance. It can engage those who study ethnology.
Even its long list of names contains significant details. Along the way it contains spiritual truth for readers to find. It shows that God keeps a faithful record of every soul in the books of heaven.
