1 Chronicles 7:9
And the number of them, after their genealogy by their generations, heads of the house of their fathers, mighty men of valour, was twenty thousand and two hundred. And the number of them, after their genealogy by their generations, heads of the house of their fathers, mighty men of valour, was twenty thousand and two hundred.
The verse stands among the lists and genealogies of the various tribes set out in the first nine chapters of Chronicles, which as one book means an account of days and consists of minutes of events, lists of names, and similar records. After the genealogy by generations it enrolls the heads of the houses of the fathers and numbers them at twenty thousand and two hundred men described as mighty men of valour. That genealogical record supplied proof of hereditary descent which was needed after the exile for assigning land and for maintaining the temple service. As one of the genealogical records that enrolls family heads by number, it shows that God keeps a faithful record of each soul.
The verse is fully inspired as part of the whole Bible even though it stands among the long lists of names in the first eight chapters of Chronicles that are seldom read in family worship or private devotions and whose value is not seen. Not all of the Bible is equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances, and this genealogy with its number and generations was included for scholars and for all classes of people and not for one class only. Deep things were placed in the Bible to attract scholars, and the origin and distribution of races was recorded for those who would study peoples, with pearls of spiritual truth scattered along the way by which He leads them as students of the world so that many seeking only human knowledge find what is divine.
