1 Chronicles 8:16

And Michael, and Ispah, and Joha, the sons of Beriah;

Michael, Ispah, and Joha were the sons of Beriah. The verse belongs to the lists of names and genealogies of the various tribes in 1 Chronicles 1-9, part of the long record of names in 1 Chronicles 4-19. In the Jewish arrangement Chronicles is one book in the third division, called Words or Acts of Days meaning minutes of events and lists of names, in the Septuagint it is called Things Omitted or passed over, and the common name Chronicles comes from the Latin Chronica.

Chronicles gives much more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than Kings does. The verse is one of the long lists of hard to pronounce names that in themselves hold little interest. The record preserves the accounts of God's children and the integrity of the tribes. The genealogy preserves family descent of the kind needed after the exile to establish hereditary rights to land and duties in temple service.

God commanded His people to keep genealogical records and moved His scribes to record them. The verse shows that God is particular. A faithful record of each soul is kept in the books of heaven.
