1 Chronicles 8:23

And Abdon, and Zichri, and Hanan,

And Abdon, and Zichri, and Hanan, stands as part of one of the long lists of names found in the first eight chapters of Chronicles. It belongs among the names in the long record of names in 1 Chronicles 4-19, which has largely to do with chronology and is read together with 1 Chronicles 8-9 and Psalm 150. The first name in the verse, Abdon, means servile. Its place in the Bible shows that inspired Scripture includes material whose value may not be obvious to every reader, since the genealogical records preserve information about the origin and distribution of peoples and can interest those who study such matters. The verse shows the preservation of the records of God's children and the integrity of the tribes, with the genealogy of the tribe of Judah carefully preserved because Christ came through it.
