1 Chronicles 9:16

And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

The book containing this verse is a record of minutes of events, lists of names, and the like, called Words or Acts of Days, whose first nine chapters give lists and genealogies of the various tribes, giving much more attention to the house of Judah and the priesthood than Kings. It belongs to the carefully preserved genealogical records of God's people and tribes, which were needed after the exile to establish hereditary land ownership and to identify those responsible for temple service.

More specifically, it is part of the account of how work was divided among the priests and those responsible for temple service, describing the order of temple service after the return from Babylon, an order originally established by David and Samuel. It names Obadiah and Berechiah, identifies them as descendants of Jeduthun and Elkanah through Shemaiah, Galal, and Asa, and records that they dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. It is cited under the name Abda, which is Aramaic for servant.

Its connection to the Sabbath is not through the people named in this verse but through the statement in verse 32 of the same chapter. Its inclusion of individual names, lineage, and residence illustrates that God is particular and that a faithful record of every soul is kept in heaven.
