1 Corinthians 11:3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
Christ, not any apostle or other human leader, is the head and leader of every man, and He is the head of the church as His body. Paul directs believers to follow him only so far as he follows Christ, and does not claim authority as head of the Corinthian church. Even an apostle is therefore not head of a local church. The church must obey Christ rather than depend on or be controlled by any human being. A position of trust in the church gives no one authority to dictate what others must believe or do, for all believers are brethren and remain liable to temptation and error. Christ's living presence is the sure foundation on which even the weakest may depend, while those who trust in human strength will fail unless Christ is their strength.
God has placed the wife under her husband as head, so that the husband is the head of the wife and she is subject to him. Her judgment, views, and reasonings should agree with his where possible, and she is to yield to his judgment and views when possible. Where they differ on what is not a matter of conscience, his preference is to prevail and she must yield to the head, with God's Word giving the preference to the husband unless conscience is involved. The same order calls for reverence toward the husband in speech and tone, not addressing him in a dictating, impatient way as to a little boy. Such a manner injures a wife's influence.
