1 Corinthians 11:33

Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

When believers gather together to eat, the meal in view is the Lord's Supper, and they are to tarry for one another rather than partaking separately or in haste. This waiting comes after self-examination and calls for partaking with reverence and discernment toward the Lord's body. Anyone who is hungry for ordinary food is to eat at home beforehand, so that the sacred gathering does not become an occasion for condemnation. The communion service thus observed is a remembrance of Jesus' death, proclaiming that death until He comes again.
