1 Corinthians 14:25
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth. And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
The verse describes an unbeliever coming into a meeting and being confronted with truth in the right way, so that the hidden thoughts and secrets of the heart are laid open and made manifest. Hearing a message that exposes what is hidden within, he is brought to recognize God's presence, to fall down and worship God, and to report and acknowledge that God is truly among and with the believers. A genuine manifestation of God does this work of exposing the unbeliever's heart and bringing that worshipful acknowledgment, and this is the test by which claims to spiritual gifts are tried.
Holy, truthful conduct and serious, heavenly conversation have power to convict those around and lead them to the truth. Such a life in a minister compels others to recognize that God is truly with him, and the same holy conduct in God's people leads others to recognize that God is truly with them. Humble, Spirit-led conduct convinces unbelievers and draws them to join God's people, while self-reliant, excessive speaking drives them away. When God's power is communicated through believers and the Holy Spirit's presence is made known through them, even unbelievers are reached by truth and all who encounter them are affected. Some resist that presence, while others recognize it, worship God, and acknowledge that He is truly among His people.
Discordant meetings marked by confusion and speaking in an unknown tongue do not expose the heart and bring this acknowledgment. Instead they lead unbelievers to think the people are irrational, and they can keep souls from accepting the Sabbath. Church meetings should therefore be made so interesting that outsiders and unbelievers are drawn to attend, so that they may recognize the truth and God's presence and respond with worship.
Whether God is truly among His church is answered by the character and life of its members, who will soon meet the Lord and give account for time, talents of influence, and possessions. He is truly among them when each holds fast integrity, clings to Jesus as a drowning person clings to refuge, obeys Him, lives for Him, loves Him, and is pure and holy and undefiled with no guile in the mouth. Such members find joy in saving souls, keep their garments unspotted from the world while multitudes serve mammon, have faith that works by love and purifies the soul, exemplify lofty Christian principles, seek personal connection with the Source of light, make constant improvement cultivating every faculty, and bring unbending uprightness and integrity into life that distinguishes them as children of the Most High, calm and gentle and self-controlled even in stormy conflict like Jesus. Such a faithful few are most happy, more precious than fine gold and the golden wedge of Ophir, and will be a power.
