1 Corinthians 14:35
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
The verse belongs to instruction about order in the church. That instruction calls for disciplined and harmonious conduct in worship. Disorder and confusion are contrary to what is required, and order is required instead. The verse is appealed to as forbidding women to speak in church and in public, including with the preceding verse as an objection to women speaking in public. Rightly explained, its clear meaning does not forbid a woman to speak in public, even to preach to a large mixed congregation.
